Clear light therapy team

Dana Colthart, LCSW Psychotherapist/Practice Owner

ABOUT DANA
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I received my graduate degree from Fordham University. I love working in private outpatient therapy practice! I love seeing my clients grow and reach their goals.

APPROACH TO THERAPY
My approach is based on creating a strong relationship with my clients, a place where they feel safe to explore their lives and emotions. I always work collaboratively with my clients to find what techniques and therapeutic environment they need to grow and heal.  I believe that having an empathic, open and caring therapist is where successful therapy begins. I  place a strong emphasis on making my clients feel comfortable, welcome and safe. I do not believe that one approach in therapy will work for everyone. I have found, over time, that my clients have many different unique needs and, thus, I have trainings in various clinical approaches to treatment. I use my experience and my clinical skills to get to know my clients and gauge what I feel would be most helpful for them to reach their goals (i.e CBT, DBT, reflective listening, empathitic emotional support, grief therapy, analyzing upbringings/home life, family therapy sessions etc.). I truly focus on my clients need and personalize their therapy sessions to meet them.

My Passion.

I am extremely passionate about helping those with OCD and eating disorders. I have observed, many times first hand, how both disorders can truly keep someone from living the life they deserve and want. Both OCD and eating disorders can be extremely devastating and I feel grateful I am able to provide many with the tools and skills to feel well again. I truly enjoy watching my clients gain freedom and hope from their struggles.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my partner, dog Gizmo (you may meet him), yoga and rock climbing!

Anxiety Disorders, OCD treatment & Eating Disorders.

I have extensive experience in treating clients of all ages that suffer from various forms of anxiety disorders, OCD and eating disorders.

I will identify, explain and help my clients begin to understand their own anxiety and how it works so they can reduce it. Again, I am well trained and familiar with various treatment techniques to reduce anxiety such as CBT and ACT are two of my favorites for anxiety. For OCD I use ERP and ACT.

About Dana

Dana graduated from Rutgers University with her Masters degree in 2019. She currently is working in two private practices in NJ and enjoys spending her free time in the city exploring or having a relaxing night with friends. She also loves traveling, traveling, reading, yoga and journaling.

Meet Dana

My name is Dana and I am a licensed clinical social worker in NJ, soon to be dually-licensed in PA as well. I have been in practice for almost 4 years. After having experiences within various levels of care, and with several populations, I've discovered that I whollfully enjoy working with couples, LGBTQ+ folks, and individuals who are struggling with identity/self-esteem, life transitions, and/or perfectionism tendencies.

In my work with couples, I key in on identifying attachment wounds, maladaptive attachment patterns, and how these complex dynamics impact the relationship. With utilizing a combination of evidence-based approaches such as Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, I am able to effectively diagnose and treat couples who are struggling. Additionally, I utilize a variety of other approaches to treat the populations mentioned above, including trauma focused CBT, trauma-focused care, CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness, positive psychology, client-centered, and psychodynamic/individual therapy. In some cases, the way we think about our problems is the root cause of the unwanted emotion, rather than the actual problem itself. Therefore, I believe by working on gaining self-awareness into maladaptive thought patterns, we can gain control over our minds and move forward to a path of healing and peace.

If you're on the fence if therapy is right for you, feel free to contact me to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation!
